Christmas baubles

So prior to Christmas I made a handful of cards for friends and family.
I was planning to make some matching baubles to give as presents aswell but somehow the time ran away from me and I only managed to finish the cards.

I started by drawing out a circle.

I cut out lots of little fabric squares.

And I stuck them to the cards creating a patchwork effect.

I made quite a few of them, in different colour schemes.

Then to finish them off I hand stiched around the bauble in matching colours and added a cute little bow.
I love making my own gifts and cards, and I hope people love receiving them!

Birds by harrietalicefox

To make a change, I was really prepared for this months theme.
I knew immediatly what I wanted to create, and finished on time. If only I could be like this every month.

July's theme was Birds/Dawn.
I decided upon a Peacock, and whilst searching for an inspirational image I found an albino peacock that still had a splash of colour. I knew that was the bird I wanted to capture within my art.

I'm going to pop it in a frame and add it onto my wall of pictures.

Kaleidoscope by harrietalicefox

June's Monthly project was 'Kaleidoscope'.
I've been toying with the idea of creating a stained glass effect window above our door for a while now.
So I thought this project would be perfect to plan it out.

I got this small piece of clear plastic and planned out my design.
Using marker pens and gouache paints, I drew and painted my colourful design.

Here's an image with the light shining through-shame there has been a lack of sun or I may I have been able to get a better picture. Now all that's left to do is translate it onto some larger clear plastic so that I can mount it on the window.

Harrietalicefox Greetings card commission

Last week I was working on a recent Greetings Card Commission.
The client liked a previous card I made and wanted a tweaked version of it, you can view it here.
So I made her very own version of the paper doll card:

I've kept the card quite simple and basic colours as to match the wardrobe of the paper doll.

I asked the client to send a photograph of the Birthday girl, along with any clothes she wanted me to include.
I also added some other outfits I thought would fit well with the character.

Moonlight and dreamtime by harrietalicefox

I loved the idea of this project-getting to create my own moon.
I knew I wanted to embroider straight away, so I started by routing through my fabric boxes.
I found a piece of white felt, a really pale blue for the background and some old waistcoat fabric in an icy blue shade, then began stitching.

There are quite alot of stitches on this piece-and I have appliqued some 'tattin' (the looping lace) my grandmother makes. I really like how it has turned out, some really nice hidden parts if you look close.
It's not finished however-I would really like to fill it with stitches so this will be an ongoing project for me.

Hope you all like it. : )

H is for Harriet

So I've started my own little project. I would like a wall of framed artwork in my living room, and my relatives kindly donated some old frames for me to work with. But these frames are alot bigger than I am used to working so this project should be quite time consuming and take quite a while to complete!

So far I have my lovely Fox and Me&You painting, and now I am working on a large hand embroidered letter H.

I have always loved the backs of pieces of embroidery.
Using such a fine fabric allows the threads underneath show through.
I'm really happy for my progress on this so far and I can't wait till it's finished.
